Analyzing similes in Masnavi Hasht Behesht of Amir Khosro Dehlavi

Abstract

Hasht-behesht is one of the five masnavis of Amir Khusro Dehlavi, which was written in response to Heft-Pikar Nizami. Simile plays an important role in imagery and literary creation. The discussion about simile helps to know more about Amir Khosro. In this research, the simile in Hasht-Behesht has been examined from all aspects, and at the end of each topic, its quantitative statistics are also presented. The aim of the research is to show how Amir Khosro Dehlavi used similes. This essay shows that Amir Khosro Dehlavi has used topics such as man and his belongings such as body parts and human artefacts, places more in his discussion. He has used elements such as nature, heavenly bodies, objects and abstract concepts as similes. The results of simile structure analysis show that Dehlavi used similes of sentient, general, sensory to sensory and individual to individual more than other modes. The simile was also examined, and it was found that the most important subjects and attributes considered by the poet as simile include: speed, color, beauty and appearance. In the continuation of the discussion of research and non-allegory nature of similes, we have also examined, which shows that similes are more of research type. Allegorical similes have little use and are often non-allegorical we discussed the combination of similes with some other Surakhials. In hashtbehesht similes are mentioned in forms such as metaphor, irony, allusion and myth, and then the angle of simile and new similes in this masnavi are also mentioned.
